Faber-Castell Featured Artist

Recently Faber-Castell featured my work on their Instagram account and with it was a Q&A, which you can read below.  Thank you to Faber-Castell and their PR and Social Media team (s) for the spotlight and for helping my work reach more people.

How long have you been an FCUSA Collaborator?
As a collaborator I guess you can say April 2019, but I have been using Faber-Castell products since I was a child growing up in Peru.

What type of artist are you?
I’m a painter/printmaker and in recent years I have been concentrating on drawing.  My imagery mostly focuses on landscapes which recently have been created from imagination.

What was the first piece of art you created?
I can’t remember what my first piece of art was.  I have been drawing and painting since before the age of 5 and I never stopped.  I remember then my mother used to have a chalk board in the house where she would teach me things such as math.  Funny thing is that I would always cover it up with drawings instead of my studies.  She also made me a sketchbook of recycled printer paper, I remember always loosing myself in those pages.

What motivates you in your art work?
The urge to always draw or paint is always there, it’s an impulse that has no rest.  My mind is full of images and ideas and I’m trying to keep up with it.  I put a lot of pressure on myself to keep creating because I know this life is short, so I need to make the most of it.

Which mediums do you prefer to work with?
Currently I have been doing a lot of pen drawings.  I’m exploring the many possibilities with a different varieties of pens and seeing not only how they work by themselves but also layering them in different ways.

What are some of your favorite Faber-Castell products you like to use?
I have a Loom fountain pen, one of the first I ever bought and I love it.  Not only does it look sharp but the nib glides nicely.  I have also been working with Pitt pens and have enjoyed the effects I can achieve with the different point sizes.
