New Painting!

Tomato on Green Dish, 2006, oil on panel, 8 x 9 inches
It's been a while since I finished an actual painting. What can I say, my work takes time to develop and I must say I like it that way. I have been working on other things but don't seem to finish them. I guess I was starting to get bored of what I was doing, but about a week and a half ago I started this painting and enjoyed the process. This piece is a tribute to a man who has influenced my work deeply; a great man, but first and foremost, a great artist. I met Stephen Brown in my spring semester of freshman year in college and from the beginning he saw potential in me, which caused him to push me harder than the other kids in the class. At that time I thought he was picking on me, but now I know why he was doing it and for that I thank him deeply. Didn't get to work with him again until my senior year, and he still pushed me. Recently I found out through a website that he had suffered a stroke which caused him to stop painting. Here's a link to a letter he wrote to a friend.

Thanks Craig, the image came out a bit too yellow and harsh but it captures the intensity of the actual colors.
Beautiful work. How wonderful to have had an art mentor like Stephen Brown. Went to his site and was very impressed by his talent. Love his self-portrait.

Hope he is receiving all the love and care from loved ones as he goes through the difficult transcension from his stroke. It will be difficult to say the least.

Good luck on your art endeavors. I will visit your blog regularly to see how your progressing.

Best regards,
June

Thank you June! Steven Brown was is not only a talented man but as a person he is very giving. All his students love him becuase he is a beautiful person. I haven't been in touch with him in two years, I hope he's recovering as well. He has a lot of people that love and respect him, I'm sure he's getting all the support he needs.
Good luck to you as well and would love to hear from you again soon.

this is just beautiful. It was nice to hear the story behind the image. Stephen Brown is, no doubt, proud that he has influenced so many.

Hi Ascender, thank you for stopping by. It's always nice to hear from a new visitro to this site. I'm sure Stephen is proud, but knowing the person he is, he would most likely be humbled instead.

Thank you Vivienne. I did keep in mind the color complements on this painting. Blue and Orange and Red and Green. I enjoyed doing this painting...I hope it shows!

I was very sad to hear the news as well, I found out many months after the fact. I was doing an online search on him and found this news. I'm hopping that he's doing well, and that he's back painting. Can't wait to see his new work in the future.
