Drawing the Figure

Saturday morning at the Art Students League couldn't have been better. On that morning I started a new figure drawing class with instructor Michael Burban and I could not bee any happier. This drawing is from one of the two models we had for the class. Kristen was a beautiful African American woman who knows how to give you the right pose. Both models for this class were right on point, challenging all artists in the class with their motion and angles. Although I have been away from drawing the figure for a few years I was not as rusty as I thought I would be.

Beautiful and inspiring.

It's been 5 or 6 years since I took a drawing class. I've been thinking about doing it again but never seem to make the time to do it.

Hi Brad, I was just like you. The last time I took a figure drawing class was in 2004. After graduating I moved to NYC and thought that I would take a few figure drawing classes. I did my research on a few places and was always telling myself, next month, next month and then almost three years went by. Finally I said, I have the money, the time, why not? And now I keep telling myself why didn't I do it earlier. When you're ready to do it you'll jump right in and will not regret it. Take care and let me know when you go back!

Thank you Robert, it was not my intent to draw something sensual but what can you do when the model before you has that presence. I was hoping to do her justice since she is so beautiful. I am very excited about this class and work that will come out of it since drawing the human form is what I like to do best. I got into art thanks to the figure drawings of Michelangelo. I spent some time when I was 15 and 16 studying his depictions for the vault of the Sistine Chapel.
